Meet Your Guides

The captains at Charter Fishing Tampa Bay are some of the friendliest, most experienced guides you’ll ever meet.

Each with their own story and type of fishing they enjoy most, our guides are ready to help you enjoy a magical day on the water while sharing what they know, and making new friends.

William Ashmore

As a Florida native, Captain Ashmore has over 40 years of experience fishing Tampa Bay Area and Central Florida.

Captain Ashmore holds a USCG Master's License for 100 GRT and all applicable credentials.

David Pruner

I'm Captain David Pruner, your go-to guy for all things fishing in and around the bountiful waters of Tampa Bay. My journey with the rod and reel started 25 years ago, but the seeds were sown much earlier in the quiet lakes of Indiana with my Dad.

He was the one who taught me that patience and persistence aren't just virtues, they're the secret ingredients to reeling in success, both in life and fishing!

My love for fishing grew from a cherished pastime to a full-blown career – talk about living the dream! Every day on the water still feels like a new adventure, and I'm a firm believer in the mantra, 'you never stop learning.'

Whether it's swapping stories with fellow anglers or trying out a new technique, I'm all ears.

Phil Pegley

Meet Captain Phil Pegley, your trusted guide for all things fishing and hunting. With over 25 years of local knowledge and expertise, Captain Phil brings a unique approach to inshore and nearshore light tackle sportfishing.

Want some extreme adventures for your charter fishing near Tampa, Florida?

Phil is not afraid to take you on extreme angling adventures, targeting impressive species like Tarpon, Sharks, and the mighty Goliath Grouper.

That’s not all… If you’re interested in seasonal charters for Lobster and Scallops, Captain Phil can arrange that in other popular Florida destinations.

Gavin O'Neal

Over 30 years’ experience on the water as skipper translate to a) safety, b) a successful catch, and c) a good time.

I do pick up, drop off, and have all the equipment. I clean the fish and have snacks and drinks.

I consider my charters guests in my home (at sea). My mission is to make you feel comfortable and engaged. We don’t just take your money and go through the motions.

As you can tell from my ebooks, graphics and recipes – I’m happy to teach what I know. I field questions, listen and engage my guests.

Frankie Gonzales

Captain Frankie Gonzalez is a seasoned fishing guide with a passion for sharing his extensive knowledge of the inshore saltwater fishing waters of west central Florida. With 30 years of experience under his belt, he has established himself as a go-to expert for anglers seeking a thrilling fishing adventure in the Tampa Bay and southern nature coast regions.

As a fishing guide, Captain Frankie takes pride in his commitment to integrity and respectability. He understands that his clients put their trust in him to deliver an unforgettable fishing experience, and he makes it his mission to exceed their expectations every time.
